- The resemblance to my Clark is perfect, but his mannerisms... everything else about him... it's just so... creepy.
Action Comics #973 is an issue of the series Action Comics (Volume 1) with a cover date of April, 2017. It was published on February 8, 2017.
Synopsis for "Mild Mannered, Part One"
Superman hears the Fortress of Solitude's proximity alarm from the Himalayas and goes to investigate. Once there, he finds someone has broken into the Fortress and is currently in the med room. Avoiding Blanque's taunts about the human Clark Kent, Superman makes his way to the med room, where he finds Steel and the very weakened form of Lucy Lane, the new Superwoman. Steel says that Lana is dying and begs Superman to save her.
Meanwhile in Metropolis, Lois has gone undercover as a waitress to expose a secret meeting between a mob boss and a few corrupt cops in a bar. The human Clark, not wanting Lois to get hurt, has offered assistance. While serving drinks, Lois plants a listening device right under the criminals' table and gets the Metropolis police enough evidence of their incriminating behavior. Suddenly, one of the mobsters uncovers Lois and alerts his fellow criminals. Lois quickly disarms the thugs, until Clark barges into the bar and attempts to save Lois; but instead he trips over a table and causes one of the gunmen to miss his shots. Detective Sawyer ends the confrontation by holding the criminals at gunpoint.
Once the operation is complete, Lois tries to follow Clark to the place he lives in, the old apartment building her Clark used to live in before she and Lois got married. In a strange turn of events, when she asks the doorman about Clark, the doorman says has entered or exited the building for at least half an hour. He also says that he hasn't seen Clark in months, increasing Lois' curiosity.
At the Fortress, Superman and Steel bring Lana to a bed and Kelex attempts to treat her but ultimately admits the nature of Lana's condition eludes him. Steel explains that it has been difficult for Lana to control her powers ever since she got them, and while Superman is no doctor, at least he is an expert on Kryptonian powers and maybe he can find a way to save her. The only way Superman can think of to save Lana's life, however, is not in this Fortress; rather; it is in the Arctic Fortress, the one controlled by the previous Superman. The two heroes grab Lana's body fly to the Arctic Fortress, unaware they are being tracked by a mysterious group.
At the Daily Planet, Lois' co-workers congratulate her on a job well done. Lex even admits to be impressed by Lois' actions. Lois simply deflects praise and goes to her office to drink some coffee, only to find the other Clark holding a cup of coffee and a bouquet of flowers. He asks her out on a dinner. At first, Lois is reluctant but suddenly realizes that this is the perfect chance to uncover the other Clark's secrets. She agrees to the other Clark's invitation but has no way to explain what happened to her Clark.
Far away from either the Daily Planet or the Himalayas, a mysterious group has been tracking Superman's location. Despite some initial difficulty, the soldiers were finally able to uncover Superman's hideout. Their leader, Dr. Hank Henshaw, tells his followers that the time has come to uncover Superman's secrets.
