In the 1940s, Admiral Corby and his Naval Intelligence unit received a great deal of covert assistance from the famous Spy Smasher.
History
In 1940, Admiral Corby, Naval Intelligence, was making little headway in thwarting a ring of saboteurs, until a mysterious vigilante aviator intervened, and dealt them some setbacks. This mystery man was known by his Axis enemies as "Spy Smasher," and was secretly Corby's daughter's boyfriend, Alan Armstrong.
When Paris was overrun by the Nazis, Admiral Corby's nephew, Lieutenant Stuart Corby, disappeared. Spy Smasher found him the following year, still in Paris, running a Gestapo division. After some violent misunderstandings were worked out, it turned out that for the entire time of his absence from America, Stuart had been acting as a double agent. By day he was a Gestapo colonel, and by night he was "the Apache." When Spy Smasher returned to America, Stuart remained behind again.[1]
Admiral Corby was involved in a number of Spy Smasher's most famous cases.
