Synopsis for Green Arrow: "Green Arrow's New Partner!"

A series of mishaps while tracking a gang of modern train robbers leaves Green Arrow despondent after Speedy apparently is killed. In reality, Speedy’s alive but has been left amnesic and, having been disguised as a train-hopping vagabond, has no identification on himself. Assuming the name of Joe Rivers (as he’d awoken along the bank of a river), the sidekick accidentally stumbles across his mastery of archery after meeting a group of boys testing themselves with a bow and arrow, fantasizing about becoming the Green Arrow’s new partner. This is “seen” by Todd Garnett, a sheriff who’d retired after an earlier encounter with the Gila Pete gang, and once an expert archer himself. Taking Joe under his wing, the former lawman is able to reawaken all of Speedy’s hazy skills, then tries to present him to the world as Proxy (so named as he'd be a substitute for Speedy), wearing a Robin Hood-themed buckskin outfit. Coming across a public exhibition held by Garnett, Oliver Queen is shaken from his depression when he recognizes Speedy. Guessing the truth, he changes into his Green Arrow garb and approaches the blinded ex-lawman. So as to not cause any mental shocks, he plays along at testing the wunderkind by taking Proxy and Garnett along with him when Gila Pete appears again. During the melee, Proxy is struck on the head by a dynamite detonator box, which is comic book fashion undoes his amnesia. Afterward, Garnett is depressed that he hadn't been able to train a new expert archer after all, but the reunited heroes assure him that, because of his actions, Speedy's skills had improved, Green Arrow had been rescued from guilt-motivated retirement, and the Gila Pete gang’s crime wave had been ended.
