Adventure Comics #412 is an issue of the series Adventure Comics (Volume 1) with a cover date of November, 1971.

Synopsis for Supergirl: "The Battle for Survival"

Nasty Luthor witnesses Supergirl robbing an art dealer while a swarm of termite-like insects terrify people passing by. She calls her news station to get them down there and is shocked when Linda Danvers -who she suspects to be Supergirl- answers the telephone.

The KSF-TV news crew heads to the place. As filming the robbery, Linda hears a police reporting Supergirl has been seen robbing an armored truck. As soon as she is done with her assignment, Linda leaves, changes clothes and sets out after her imitator.

Her double proves to be Glynix, an alien woman of the planet Liquel II. She has chosen Supergirl as her champion, so she committed crimes in order to get her attention and brought a swarm of poisonous insects with her to ensure Supergirl's cooperation. Supergirl is angry but she decides to cooperate.

As they travel to Glynix's homeworld, the Liquelian woman apologizes for her devious methods and explains her desperate plight: she and her mate Largyn rule Liquel II. They are threatened by aggression from the conqueror Zogg, and the conflict must be decided by single combat between champions. Since Zogg's champion is a giant blue female warrior with incredible strength and the powers of thousand demons, Supergirl has been chosen by Glynix.

Supergirl fights Zogg's champion and prevails after a brutal battle. However, custom calls for Supergirl to kill her opponent with a sword, and the Girl of Steel refuses. By their law, that means Glynix must be executed in her place. Supergirl appeals to the populance watching the contest, gains their loyalty, and has them proclaim that both Glynix and the female giant must live.

But both Glynix and Supergirl are astonished to see Zogg and his army confronting them with Glynix's mate Largyn at Zogg's side. Shamefacedly, Largyn confesses that he didn't think Supergirl had a chance, and agreed to cede control of Liquel II to Zogg in return for high government posts for himself and Glynix. Glynix refuses to serve a tyrant like Zogg, and Zogg wants to get her destroyed.

Supergirl intervenes, taking Glynix out of harm's way, and disarms Zogg's army. Zogg attempts to stop Supergirl firing a devastating weapon known as shock ray. The Maid of Might is stunned by the blast, and Zogg decides Supergirl is too dangerous to be allowed to live. Glynix convinces her mate to man up and confront Zogg. Largyn attacks Zogg and the two, wielding knives, fall into a moat. Largyn emerges alive. Supergirl says goodbye to them and returns to Earth.

Synopsis for Animal Man: "I Was the Man With Animal Powers"

This story is reprinted from Strange Adventures #180.

Buddy Baker, a meek mild-mannered mouse of a man, gains superhuman abilities when his body is exposed to the radiation from a crashed alien spacecraft. He is in the countryside on a hunting trip with his friend Roger Denning, when he finds himself attacked by all manner of strange beasts. A circus train has derailed, and the animals have escaped. Beset by tigers and gorillas and elephants, Buddy finds himself able to harness the powers of each creature and use them against each other. He agrees to help the local professionals track down and recapture the animals. Amidst the chaos, the alien life form who came to Earth attacks a nearby town. Buddy takes it as his responsibility to stop the monster at all costs, and finds that it has powers rivaling his own. In the middle of the fight, his animal enhancements begin to fade, and he is forced to flee. Regrouping, he tries a new approach. Buddy gets a mouse, and brings it to the extraterrestrial, enforcing timid and meek characteristics onto it. Now that it's afraid of him, he backs it off of a cliff and it plunges to its death. Buddy is proclaimed a hero in all of the local papers for his daring triumph. Back at home, he is trying to work up the courage to ask his girlfriend Ellen to marry him. Mustering up as much bravery as he can, he proposes... she accepts, and he promptly faints into her arms.
