Synopsis for Mike Gibbs, Guerrilla: "The Last Time They Saw Paris!"
June 1st 1940, in the Paris office of the New York Globe, Mike Gibbs is sent by his editor, Slate, to interview the famous Polish Resistance fighter, and current fugitive, Captain Hwart, who is rumored to be there in Paris. Gibb searches for Hwart in the Polish Quarter of Paris, and he dupes some refugee children into leading him to Hwart. Two of Hwart's very protective colleagues mistake Mike's purpose in being there, and spring up to attack him, but fare poorly against him. Captain Hwart turns out to be a young lady resistance fighter, named Marie, and she refuses to be interviewed.
Three gunmen burst into the room, gloating about how cleverly they followed Gibbs to this place, and they abduct Marie, who denounces Mike as a betrayer and a dirty spy! The enemy agents head-konk Gibbs unconscious with a pistol butt, and escape with their prize. Moments later Gibbs awakens, and staggers into the Polish Quarter, stunned and furious. He deduces that if these agents knew to follow him, then they had been tipped off, and that the tipper could only be his own editor, Slate. Gibbs storms into the Globe office, manhandles Slate, and demands answers. Slate knows nothing, and is innocent.
Several days pass, and Mike is stymied and seething: he can't figure where the Nazis are holding Hwart, or how they knew to follow him. Soon it is June 14th, and Paris is being evacuated. All of Gibbs' co-workers leave town while they still can, but Gibbs stays behind, still driven and determined to find Miss Hwart. But a careless remark from one co-worker, Louie, tips off Mike that he's the informer. Mike follows Louie to his home base, where Louie's real boss is torturing Miss Hwart. Gibbs thrashes both of these punks and frees Marie, but Louie rallies back up, with a pistol, and wastes a few precious seconds with gloating. Gibbs shoots him between the eyes with a rubber band, then punches him unconscious.
Mike and Marie run into the street, but the German Army is already marching down the boulevards. They run down streets and alleys, heading for the outskirts. They witness many French civilians being arbitrarily gunned down. By stealth and a little bit of trickery, they find their way out of town, and Captain Hwartz finally answers Gibbs' main interview question: She was sent here, at this time, in order to organize a resistance movement among the French people. Mike joins up on the spot, and is now a Guerilla.
