Synopsis for Shining Knight: "The Scrap for Scrap!"
In front of the City Museum, three scrap-collecting boys have trouble when a big fat slob, being chased by four men, stumble-crashes thru their scrap pile, scattering it. While they reassemble their stuff, they ask passing museum employee Justin Arthur to settle an argument about whether or not the Shining Knight really exists. Justin leaves, to change clothes, mount up, and settle this dispute. Meanwhile the chase has looped back on itself and here comes the fat guy (Starvin' Sam) again. The pursuers catch him just as Justin arrives on the scene, melee ensues, with the Shining Knight pitching in on behalf of the outnumbered side. Starvin' Sam meanwhile retrieves a small tin box from the scrap pile and quietly flees the scene. After a brief pummeling, so do the four pursuers.
Sir Justin chooses to follow the fat man with the tin box, and he invites the boys to board Winged Victory along with him. They soon spot Sam on the open top deck of a double-deck bus, and Sir Justin deftly snags him off it with the tip of his lance, then dumps him on the ground. A car screeches onto the scene and the four pursuers pile out of it, with tommyguns. The Shining Knight positions himself between the boys and the gunmen, who are savvy enough to shoot directly at his face, but are still unable to get any lead past Justin's incredible swordsmanship; he parries all of it with his unbreakable broadsword. However he does tire himself out, quite a bit. After their ammo is expended, the fight again comes down to fisticuffs, and the four-to-one odds begin to prevail. Meanwhile, it's revealed in their tough-guy talk that Starvin' Sam had earlier double-crossed his own gang. Sam again runs away, but the three boys, on Victory, follow him.
The gang meanwhile has subdued the weary Sir Justin, and are driving thru the city in their open car, which is just asking for trouble. Luckily a parade is passing, with giant hydrogen balloon likenesses of Superman and Batman and Robin, and many other colorful figures. They slip into this parade, and Justin, at close gunpoint, is compelled to stand up and wave, which is what gives him the opportunity to get close to one balloon, and puncture it with one armored finger, releasing a jet of hydrogen, which encounters a lit cigarette, and explodes just hard enough to stun the crooks without injuring any spectators. Justin rallies up his full strength and subdues the four hoods, then the boys fly in with news of Sam's whereabouts, a nearby restaurant, where he's quickly subdued. Retrieving the tin box, Justin and his new friends return to the City Museum, where by absolutely pure luck they happen to encounter the distraught owner of the tin box, frantically grubbing thru the scrap pile looking for it, and he has with him the key, which proves he's the rightful owner. The box is stuffed full of cash, his life savings, which he's very grateful to have returned. He now realizes that keeping that much cash on hand is dangerous, so he buys some War Bonds, and donates the box, and the key, to the boys' scrap drive.
