The series was based upon the continuity of the Batman and Superman animated series and did not take place within the mainstream DC Universe. Adventures in the DC Universe used the same animated style seen in the DC Animated Universe, but instead focused on a rotating cast of characters from throughout the DC Universe. It is interesting to note that the "animated" versions of many characters that would later appear in Justice League and Justice League Unlimited first appeared here.
