Adventures of Superman #481 is an issue of the series Adventures of Superman (Volume 1) with a cover date of August, 1991.

Synopsis for "The Big Drain!"

Jimmy Olsen runs against time to be on time for an interview at Newstime Magazine, but he misses the subway train. Disgruntled, he leaves the station, rushing to his interview. Unfortunately for him, he finds out another postulant named Ronald Troupe took his place in the appointment, so Jimmy leaves, thinking about his bad luck for missing the first subway.

But he doesn't know that he just saved his own life because the Parasite stops the same train Jimmy missed in the middle of a tunnel and kills all the passengers inside.

Meanwhile, Clark tries to reach out to Lana Lang, but he doesn't know she now lives in Washinton, DC, with Pete Ross. But Lana is still too heartbroken to speak to Clark again.

The news of the subway train incident reaches Clark Kent's desk, who is disgusted to see more death on the front page of the Daily Planet, questioning Sam Foswell's spot as interim editor. Superman arrives at the crime scene, where he finds the skeletons of all the passengers. He also picks up a faint infra-red image and follows its trail, finding a disguised Parasite crashing through the subway walls. Unable to recognize him, Superman gets in close range to the "stranger", so the Parasite absorbs his energy. By doing so, he also seemingly absorbs some of his memories. They continue clashing through the subway's walls and pillars, causing a cave-in. The Parasite escapes while Superman is left behind to take care of the crumbling infrastructure. After the incident is over, the story gets to the front page by the writing hand of Clark Kent.

Meanwhile, Maggie Sawyer calls Amanda Waller, who explains Rudy Jones, a.k.a. The Parasite, escaped from Belle Reve Prison.
