Synopsis for "The Day of the Super-Comet"

Part of the untitled "Dominus Effect" storyline, this is the second of three stories with Superman cast into the Silver Age reality, which starts off with Superman fighting Brainiac inside his fortress with Dan Turpin and Maggie Sawyer in on the action, when the Man of Steel is alerted to the presence of a comet heading straight towards Earth. After seeing Superman safely destroy the comet, Lois Lane, Jimmy Olson, and Maggie along with some others began to wish they had the same powers Superman has. The next day, Clark discovers that all the residents in Metropolis do have super powers just like his -- everyone, that is, except for Dan Turpin, who never wished to have any super powers -- and this was proven when a couple of would-be bank robbers were instantly stopped just by citizens revealing their caped identities to them. However, at a public meeting the mayor held with the citizens of Metropolis, Metallo appears on the scene and weakens everybody with the radiation of his Kryptonite heart. Dan Turpin, however, was unaffected and instantly depowers Metallo. Superman gets Mxyzptlk to reveal himself as the culprit behind giving everybody super powers and he soon disappears back to his home dimension, restoring everybody back to normal. After presenting Dan Turpin as a true "superhero" to the public, a little white-haired girl tries to warn Superman that everything is not right before she vanishes, and he notices from a nearby clock that the time is 2:22.
