- There are more bricks in Metropolis bearing my name than you've got brain cells.
Adventures of Superman #573 is an issue of the series Adventures of Superman (Volume 1) with a cover date of December, 1999.
Synopsis for "Higher Ground"
Lex Luthor is furious with Metropolis mayor Bradford Sackett and blames Superman for destroying the futuristic Hypersector as well as the LexCorp tower. In reality, Hypersector is unable to expand due to homeowner Jerome Odetts, who refuses to sell his land, in spite of the bullying and violent threats made against him by Luthor. Sackett gives him an order to vacate, leaving Odetts until the end of the day on Friday to move out from his home. Luthor hand delivers it and intimidates the gentle farmer with his bodyguards Hope and Mercy.
Back at the Planet, Clark tells Lois about how distraught he is and how the issue reminds him of a time back in Smallville when his powers were first emerging and he narrowly saved the town from being razed by an electrical fire. Clark and Lois run a front page story declaring that Superman believes the Odetts farm should be marked as an historic monument that should be preserved. The city council agrees and halts the order that would have allowed Luthor to bulldoze it.
