Synopsis for "Infant in Arms"
Two alien spacecraft fight above Earth's atmosphere. One of them is shot down and falls on Jackson, Missouri. The U.S. Army enters the scene and, not wanting to take any chances, decides to kill whoever is in the ship. As an helicopter shoots missiles, Superman stops them. It turns out the only person in the ship is a baby. Nearby, a dying alien tells Superman to protect the baby girl. Her name is Aria and she is a princess. Aria projects images of her escape from her world into Superman's mind, explaining her origins. Suddenly, the people who want Aria dead attack Superman. After a short chase, Superman and Aria hide in a forest. Superman promises to protect Aria.
To keep Aria safe, Superman takes her to church and puts Aria under the care of a nun. Then, the baby's pursuers find them and a battle ensues. Superman defeats the leader of the attackers and saves the nun and Aria when one of the ships destroys the church. After the danger has passed, Superman leaves Aria with the nun, saying that in time, someone will come for her.

Synopsis for "The Way These Things Begin"
In Smallville; two brothers, Mike and Henry, park their car on a railroad just as a train is about to get across. Although Henry is scared, Mike calms him down, saying they will finally meet Superman. Mike is a Superman fan and is willing put himself and Henry in danger just so that he can meet their hero.
Meanwhile, Luthor is upset that Superman can be everywhere at once. Luthor plans to commit various crimes at once. First, he uses a tank to break into the Metropolis National Bank. Just as Superman arrives to confront him, Luthor detonates several explosives he placed on a dam, causing a flood. After saving people from the flood, Superman freezes the water with his cold breath.
Meanwhile, Henry exits the car just as the train gets near them. Superman listens to Henry call out for his brother. However, Superman is too late and Mike is crushed by the train.
In jail, a cop asks Luthor if he ever gets tired of losing to Superman and Luthor replies that if one person grows to hate Superman, then he has won. Mike burns his brother's Superman collection, having lost faith in Superman.
