Synopsis for "Action Detectives, Part 2"

Rex Luthor explains his backstory. As a child on a remote planet, he grew up watching newsfeeds and other videos from Earth, and grew to admire Earth's supervillains. He befriended the boy who would become Joker Jr., and the two became convinced that their civilization was corrupt and needed to be torn down and rebuilt.

In the present, Rex attacks the depowered Superboy with his Power Glove, but it turns out that the belt Jon recently received as a gift from his father includes a forcefield generator, which protects him. Between the forcefield and the training he's received from Damian, Jon is able to hold his own against the young villains, but Joker Jr. threatens the fallen Robin. Rex reveals that he has captured the Puppeteer, and demands that Jon allow himself to be controlled in order to save Damian.

Jon refuses, but the Puppeteer is able to control his forcefield even without his cooperation, which is effectively the same thing. At Rex's command, Joker Jr. re-envelops Damian in restraining bandages, but as he does he quietly drops the Joker persona and pleads for Damian's help. The villains, with Jon and Damian in tow, board their spaceship and fly to the Fortress of Solitude.

The Gang force Jon to retrieve the object they came to Earth for: a Hypercube, left behind by Manchester Black. With the cube in hand, Rex turns on the Puppeteer, borrowing Kid Deadshot's gun to dispose of him. However, Jon is able to free himself by turning off the forcefield, and he dives in front of the shot. However, without his powers, this incapacitates him, so Joker Jr. just drags him off to Damian's cell while Rex Luthor takes another shot at the Puppeteer.

Joker Jr. frees Damian from the constricting bandages (which he explains they copied from Copperhead) and once again asks for his help. Damian is skeptical and attacks, but eventually allows the young alien to explain. He tells Damian that, while most people from their world celebrated Earth and its heroes, Rex became obsessed with its villains. He killed JJ's parents in an attempt to drive him insane, and then chemically Jokerized him. Rex then created his other teammates, but was seemingly more successful at brainwashing them. Joker Jr. warns that Rex wants to recruit more villainous allies and destroy both Cygnus and Earth, and gives Damian the box of synthetic Gold Kryptonite, saying he heard that the effects can be reversed.

On the bridge, Rex celebrates his victory explains that he needs his lab on Cygnus as well as Jon's corpse in order to tap into the Hypercube's power. However, Brainiac 6 informs him that a landing pod has launched, causing him to immediately realize that Joker Jr. has betrayed him. The Gang investigates, discovering that JJ left a resignation message before boarding the pod, but he left the Super Sons in the prison bay. Meanwhile, Damian tinkers with the kryptonite in an attempt to restore Jon's powers. Just as the villains arrive, he instead somehow separates Superboy into two copies of himself, and the kryptonite turns red.
