Quote1 The Arion you faced in battle was a confused fool -- who still had embers of compassion burning in his heart. But that man is long dead. I stand before you reawakened! Reborn! I see myself...I see the world....with new eyes! Quote2

Ahri'ahn, later known as Arion, is a powerful sorcerer-king of ancient Atlantis, scientist, and one of the Lords of Order. A legendary hero of both Atlantean and Amazon lore, he is often hailed as the first and greatest hero in the history of Atlantis.

The son of of Calculha and Majistra, forces of good and strife, Arion was born as a Lord of Order manifesting in physical form and the twin brother of Garn Daanuth, a Lord of Chaos and his nemesis.[2]

Sealing Away the Dark Giants

During his days as a heroic sorcerer-king, evil eldritch entities known as the Dark Giants preyed upon humanity for sport. In response, Arion constructed both the White Gate and used Nth metal to banish and seal them away from the Earth.[2][4] He obfuscated details of his dealing with the Dark Giants, claiming that he spun ancient magic in the center of the Earth's core to save Atlantis.[5]

Encounter with the Ocean Lords

Later in his life, he was admired from afar by Poseidon, who took a liking to Arion's commitment to exploration, unity, and how it prospered Atlantis. Taking him as his protégé, Poseidon revealed to him the true nature of the world that allowed Earth to flourish with life: the Life Force. Longing to share that power with the known universe to tithe and bind them all as one, the wizard king imbued a piece of conch shell with the power of the Life Force, responsible for planetary genesis and called forth the Triumvirate of Sea Gods to receive this power. Unknown to him, his mentor had grew jealous of him and feared giving away his power to others, causing him to betray Arion by lying to him, claiming the three sea gods were conquerors who sought to plunder their world. Dismayed, he used his magic and technology to invert a small piece of that power used to summon them and instead created the Tear of Extinction; after having imbued it into the Clarion. Using its power, he killed the Ocean Lords and cast them into the Graveyard of Gods.[6]

It was claimed he had perished from the conflict and Arion vanished from Atlantis for millennia.[2] A legend was spurred detailing the event (with the exclusion of the mentioning of the tear of extinction's existence) and it's real, historical account was kept secret by the Atlantean royal bloodline. The legend derived from the event encouraged further Atlantean tendencies towards isolationist policies.[7]

The Scarab and Doctor Fate

During the times of Ancient Egypt[2], he came into contact with the Blue Beetle Scarab, enduring corruption and gained visions of a proclaimed calamity and was plunged into madness from premonition he'd received. During battle with Doctor Fate over ownership of the Scarab, Arion intervened in an attempt to claim it for himself. The ensuring conflict allowed it to leave the battle.

A portion of Arion's corrupted spirit was eventually sealed away in a chamber under what would later be El Paso, Texas.[8]

Blue Beetle Vol 9 7 Textless

An insane Arion faces Blue Beetle and Doctor Fate.

Having found the current Blue Beetle holder, Jaime Reyes, he sends his servant Mordcai Cull to retrieve.[9] Using his limited influence and Mordecai, he is successful in luring Doctor Fate, Jaime, and the Blue Beetle Scarab near the sealing grounds of his imprisonment as well as separate Jaime's soul from his body to give the scarab full control.[10]

As Doctor Fate fights the Scarab, it releases Jaime from it's body. As an act of mercy and gratitude for ushering his return, Arion uses his influence to merge his body with his soul and feeds off the energy from Fate and the Scarab, enabling him to break through his imprisonment.[8] With his newfound power, he defeats Doctor Fate and begins transforming the Earth into his dark image.[11] He then begins to casts a global enchantment and calls upon Jaime's assistance by using the spark of energy he retained from his unique bond with the Scarab, controlling his body into doing so. However, Jaime manages to break through Arion's telepathic control and re-take the scarab, severely weakening Arion.[12] Attempting to combat Doctor Fate once more, he is instead knocked out by a cannon blast from Jaime and is taken by Doctor Fate to be placed in a absolution crystal for ten thousand years, where he can either transcend his sins or be consumed by them.[13]

His physical body was, at some point, entombed in his ancient home, Atlantis.

Arion was later resurrected by Merlin as the Sapphire Knight.[1]
