Alan Scott became the first hero on Earth to bear the mantle of the Green Lantern.

However, his acquisition of that power did not come from being made a member of the Green Lantern Corps, as one of its members Abin Sur discovered, but rather from a reshaped piece of a green meteor that was fashioned into the form of a train lantern. Alan Scott served faithfully as a member of the Justice Society of America as Green Lantern. In the 1970s, Alan found Ferris Aircraft test pilot Hal Jordan a worthy successor to carry on as Green Lantern and attempted to pass on the role to him, only to find Hal rejecting the role of the superhero for a much grander role serving as a politician and then later as President of the United States. In 1986, Alan joined with Stephanie Trevor (Wonder Woman) and Carrie Allen (Flash) to rein in Bruce Wayne Jr. (Batman) when he was being controlled by the rage over losing his first wife Kara Kent (Supergirl) to Lex Luthor. During his confrontation with Bruce Jr., he was coated with wood shavings which prevented him from using his power ring and was almost pummeled to death by Bruce Jr. when Carrie stopped him, making him realize how powerful his rage was. In the 1990s, Alan passed on the power ring to another worthy successor, Kyle Rayner. In 1997, Alan joined Hal and his wife Carol in the White House under the protection of President Barbara Gordon as Sinestro sought to destroy all Green Lanterns, including Alan, who was nearly killed as Kyle crash-landed in the White House with Sinestro in pursuit of him. Hal then took the ring and defeated Sinestro with it, revealing that the real weakness behind the ring wasn't wood (as Alan believed it to be) or yellow (as Kyle believed it to be), but rather the user's own will, all weaknesses created due to the psychological beliefs of the wearer. Hal then became a member of the Green Lantern Corps in order to help rebuild the team while Alan's power ring became Kyle's once again.

Powers

A power ring that enables him to fly and create various objects using its energy

Weaknesses

The power ring is ineffective against wood, due to a psychological block Alan created during his first use of it. It also requires a recharge after 24 hours of usage from the lantern that gives it its power.

Equipment

A green lantern used for recharging the energy ring.
