Synopsis for Green Lantern: "The Mystery of the Melancholy Men"
Doiby and Alan are having a heated argument about something, before events flash back to a week before.
- Green Lantern and Doiby are pounding down some crooks and Doiby's having to try a lot harder than usual. In the wake of beating the criminals, Lantern declares Doiby's gone soft and drags him to a country club to get him plenty of exercise. Everyone there seems rather solemn, it's noted, and that smiling is against the rules. Furthermore, they aren't taking new guests. Doiby makes a scene, prompting the man at the desk to call security before Alan calms things down and says they'll find another club in the morning.
- However, Alan can't get any sleep because something's bothering him about that whole encounter until he figures out what it was: the club's bouncers had Nazi Olympic insignias on their uniforms. He takes things a step further and deduces none of the club members talked because they'd give away their German accents. After changing to Green Lantern he flies back to the club where he surprises the members into revealing themselves as Germans just as he expected, but one of them hitting the hero with a golf club with a wooden head, knocking him out. He's taken to a basement room with a wooden door, but fortunately Doiby had snuck back in to get his golf clubs, seen Lantern being taken captive, and snuck down to help his friend out of his predicament.
- The heroes sneak through the fortress and find a submarine dock, and twig to the reason for hiding it at a country club: that way there are enough men around to crew the submarine around the clock and it can constantly be out wreaking havoc on the shipping lanes. Green Lantern and Doiby hide aboard the sub as it departs for its next attacks. They're discovered by the crew but Lantern has Doiby fire him out a torpedo tube, then once outside the sub uses his willpower to lift the entire vessel into the sky.
The navy expresses its gratitude for the capture of an enemy sub, but Alan and Doiby argue that the other deserves more of the credit.
