Despite Palmer and Associates being a detective agency a Mr. A. Frade hires them to collect the $5000 Mr. Harty owes him, because he knows Harty is a tough customer and it will require creative thinking to collect from him. Once the trio manage it Frade turns out to have "hired" them for another reason as well, he takes advantage of their financial state to "pay" them in publicity.

Synopsis for Tinkerman Tad: "The Mortgage Mender"
Tad is asked to patch a doll by a busy mother, which he offers to do for free. While he's working on it the bank comes to kick the family out because they're a week behind on mortgage payments, despite the dept having been paid in full by the father before he passed, because he knows they can't afford to fight him in any kind of legal proceedings. Tad helps the young widow keep her housing, purely by accident, as his antics while trying to patch the doll keep harassing and embarrassing the banker.
