Amadeus Arkham (disambiguation)

Amadeus Arkham is a 20th Century psychologist and the founder of Arkham Asylum. The asylum was inspired by his mentally ill mother Elizabeth Arkham whom he assisted in committing suicide. His wife Constance Arkham and daughter Harriet Arkham were raped and murdered by the criminal Mad Dog, who Arkham later killed in treatment. Eventually in the modern day his descendant Jeremiah Arkham would run the asylum and go insane as well. He was also the partner of Jonah Hex during a period when Hex visited Gotham City.

Amadeus Arkham was created by Grant Morrison and Dave McKean, first appearing in Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth. (1989)
