Amadeus Arkham was the founder of Arkham Asylum.
History
In the early 20th Century, Amadeus Arkham converted his family estate into a treatment center for the mentally ill, which he named the Elizabeth Arkham Asylum for the Criminally Insane. Eventually, he too descended into madness.[1]

- This version of the character is exclusive to the continuity of the DC Extended Universe and is an adaptation of Amadeus Arkham. The original character was created by Grant Morrison and Dave McKean and first appeared in Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth.
