The Amazon River, usually abbreviated to Amazon (Spanish and Portuguese: Amazonas), in South America is the largest river by discharge volume of water in the world and according to some authors the longest in length.
History
The source of the river is in Peru, and its waters and those of its tributaries also bathe Ecuador, Colombia, Bolivia and Brazil (where most of its course is).
It is the most important river of the Amazon Rainforest.
