History

New Earth

In 1910, the Solomon Brothers began building up the district with nickelodeons and movie theatres. Soon after, Carlo Geraldi built an amusement park. The businessmen then began competing and building more attractions, with other entrepreneurs following suit.

The district fell into disrepair after Gotham's industrial boom was over, with Broker buying up the property and selling it to Gotham's rogues as secret hideouts.[1]

Prime Earth

Dick Grayson, also known as the vigilante Nightwing, at one point bought a portion of Amusement Mile after having been bequeathed Haly's Circus by its former owner C.C. Haly. Grayson attempted to invest in the run down portion of Gotham, planning to revitalize it as the new permanent home of the circus.

However, when the Joker returned to Gotham wearing his own face and claiming to know the identities of all of Batman's allies, the villain attacked Nightwing at Amusement Mile, sending it into chaos and traumatizing the circus performers. [2] Afterwards, the circus disbanded, and Nightwing severed ties with Gotham to move to Chicago.

Notes

Trivia

  • Amusement Mile's development story mirrors the real life Coney Island, which built up quickly in the late 1800's but closed most attractions and parks by the mid 1960's.
