Andy Serkis (b. April 20, 1964) is a prolific British character actor who portrayed Alfred Pennyworth in The Batman and voiced Matthew the Raven on The Sandman.

Professional History
Andy Serkis is a renowned character actor and filmmaker known primarily for his performances with motion capture. Some of his most notable characters have included Gollum in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the title character in Peter Jackson's King Kong, Caesar in the Planet of the Apes reboot trilogy, and Supreme Leader Snoke in the Star Wars sequel trilogy.
Serkis has received critical acclaim and several accolades for his motion capture performances, and has been celebrated outside of motion capture for his roles such as Ian Dury in Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll, Ulysseys Klaue in Avengers: Age of Ultron and Black Panther, and Kino Loy on Andor. In 2017, he made his directorial debut with the film Breathe, and went on to direct Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, and the upcoming Animal Farm.
His first role for a DC Comics adaptation was as the voice of Matthew the Raven in the audio drama adaptation of Neil Gaiman's The Sandman. Later, when Matt Reeves, director of the latter two films in the Apes trilogy, went to DC Studios to direct The Batman, he brought on Serkis to portray Alfred Pennyworth, a role for which he gained much acclaim. He is currently slated to return as Alfred in the upcoming sequel, The Batman – Part II.
