Angel and the Ape (Volume 2) with a cover date of March, 1991.
Synopsis for "Shaking The Family Tree"
Sixteen years ago (which would be 1973) in Africa while on an African expedition with her father, Theo, Angel O'Day goes to get some fire wood and encounters Sam Simeon, a talking gorilla. Sam gets bit by a poisonous Mamba snake and Angel gets her father to help.
Today (Tuesday, June 12, 1989), Angel and Sam spar when Mr. Ziebarth arrives with their check from an earlier assignment (involving a Ms. Xan who blew up a building and herself). Athena Tremor, Angel's half-sister, arrives. Normally she and Sam have lunch every Tuesday but today she asks Angel to join her instead. Neither Angel nor Sam are happy about this, but they both agree. At lunch Athena asks Angel's permission to date Sam as he's the only one who treats her well and is strong enough to withstand her hugs. Despite not being happy about it, Angel agrees.
Meanwhile Sam heads to the bank to deposit their check. At exactly 11:07:30 Sam transforms into a human while every human transforms into gorillas. While it seems like longer to Sam, the change reverses itself after only one second. Crazed, Sam is unable to sustain the concentration required to maintain his human illusion and the crowd freaks out at his presence. Sam races back to the office where he tells a skeptical Angel what has happened. Determined to prove his story, Sam sneaks back into the bank disguised as a security camera repairman and switches the security camera tape with one of his own. Unbeknownst to him, however, the bank is being robbed at that very moment. Sam and Angel watch the tape which proves Sam's tale. Angel calls the bank manager and finds he was just about to call them and make an appointment. He heads to their office but three bulky bald men with metallic devices on their heads enter and try to forcefully take Sam with them. Angel and Sam resist but are barely holding their own when Athena arrives and comes to Sam's defense. The three of them are able to defeat the bad guys as the bank manager arrives. While the bank manager tells them about the bank robbery and his belief that the security camera repairman may be involved Sam removes one of the metallic headpieces from the bulky men revealing them to really be apes. In a panic, Sam flees out the window muttering a possibly indefinite goodbye.
