History
Appleton City is the home town of the Bannerman Chemical Co., its irascible owner Mr. Bannerman, and his overworked underappreciated employee, Rex Tyler. The local vigilante superhero is Hour Man.

- Hour-Man first appeared in Adventure Comics #48, March 1940, and had his adventures in a generic American city, which went unnamed until Adventure Comics #53, Aug 1940, when it was called Appleton City. Two months later, in Adventure Comics #55, Oct 1940, the city was identified as Cosmos. No explanation or mention of this change is made, ever.
