Aqualad was a young Atlantean superhero and a member of Titans East.

History

Aqualad grew up in Atlantis, acting as the sidekick of the underwater nation's hero Aquaman. He went to school with a girl named Gill Girl, whom he called "Gilly". As Aqualad recounted, though Gill Girl had a crush on him at the time, he treated her more like a younger sister. By their adolescence though, Gill Girl had moved on to dating a turtle named Nero, and Aqualad seemingly developed a crush on her.

In the present day, Aqualad aided the Teen Titans against what was being called "The Creature from Jump City Bay" - a mysterious creature that left and returned to the bay, scaring the locals. Aqualad revealed that the creature wasn't trying to hurt anyone, it was simply his friend Gill Girl trying to find her turtle-boyfriend Nero, who was accidentally captured by the Jump City Aquarium. Gill Girl, unlike Aqualad, became extremely disoriented on the surface and therefore caused more trouble than usual. Aqualad talked to Gill Girl and helped her return to Atlantis with Nero, leaving Jump City alone.

• This version of the character is exclusive to the continuity of the television series Teen Titans, the animated shorts that continued the series, and its tie-in comic book series Teen Titans Go!. It is an adaptation of Aqualad. The original character was created by Robert Bernstein and Ramona Fradon and first appeared in Adventure Comics #269.

Trivia

• Aqualad refuses to eat sea food and disapproves of his friends eating it as well. According to him, the fish they are eating could have been his friends in the ocean.
