Synopsis for "Aquaman: Andromeda, Book One"

A mysterious object from space crashlands in the Pacific Ocean at "Point Nemo", a lifeless section of the ocean floor as far as possible from any habitable location which the world's nations use as a graveyard for obsolete spacecraft. An experimental submarine called the Andromeda is sent to investigate, carrying a complement of scientific experts. One of them is Yvette Verne, a marine biologist and behavioral science expert whose father died at sea.

Arthur Curry, the Aquaman, visits an isolated village in the Russian Far East where he sometimes spends summers helping with the shipbuilding. He goes to an old friend of his named Soatha and tells her that he senses something strange in the water calling to him. She advises him to go and says goodbye, as she believes she will be dead when he next visits. It is revealed that when they first met they were both young, but Soataha has grown old while Arthur has not. Meanwhile David Hyde, a notorious pirate known as Black Manta, is hired to obtain the object, and also any research that the Andromeda gathers.

As the Andromeda gets closer, the alien craft scans it with a massive burst of sonic and electromagnetic waves across all frequencies. A mass of giant tentacles rise up out of the craft and destroy Andromeda's support vessel the Esperanza. The captain refuses to surface to rescue survivors and reveals that Andromeda's mission is a secret. Suddenly they detect an incredibly fast moving object in the water that throws many of the survivors out of the water into life rafts and then pushes the creature back into the craft. It is Aquaman, drawn to the craft and fighting the creature.

Despite the danger, Andromeda's controllers order them to continue on course and attempt first contact.
