Synopsis for "Legacy"

Jackson and Lucia have agreed to go with Delilah to Xebel. Along the way, she tells Jackson that Xebel's people are suffering; they have twice the population of Atlantis but half the space, they struggle to survive on limited resources and the military regularly conscripts children for a war with Atlantis that will never come. Despite everything, Delilah still loves Xebel and believes Jackson can save it.

Delilah takes the Hydes to The Constant, her family graveyard, and visits the grave of Ellec Inaego, her father and Lucia's ex-husband who died after Lucia left Xebel. She tells Jackson that Lucia did not come to Ellec's funeral, much to his shock. It's revealed that Lucia did attend but only in disguise and did not approach a grieving Delilah, but she chooses not to tell them this. They are suddenly attacked and Jackson is hit with a concussion grenage that renders him temporarily deaf. The attackers are actually Delilah's allies who mistook them for intruders and she is able to get them to stand down, but when Jackson sees her surrounded by them he assumes she is being attacked and continues fighting until one of them knocks him out.

When Jackson wakes up he and Lucia are bound in a cell. An older woman enters and introduces herself as Meeka, the leader of the Xebelian Liberation Front and Delilah's stepmother, or "second mother" as they are known in Xebel. She and Delilah ask him what he knows about the Massacre at Hallas Hall, which he believes was a terrorist attack; however, Lucia tells him that the Xebelian Guard fired on a crowd of peaceful anti-conscription protestors, including her. Meeka frees Jackson when he asks but refuses to release Lucia, who Delilah claims is dangerous, telling him that she murdered one of the soldiers there that day. Jackson refuses to believe it but Lucia admits it is true, when peaceful methods failed she and others in the anti-conscription movement turned to violence first against property, and then people.

Lucia escapes her handcuffs and claims that her methods worked, but Delilah responds that she turned the peace movement into the murderers and terrorists the military claimed they were. Meeka reveals that Lucia only succeeded in ending conscription for a few months and cost their movement the moral high ground by making their message into one of violence and intimidation. She unveils dozens of pictures of Lucia killing people, to Jackson's horror. With his trust in his mother destroyed, Jackson leaves, saying he wants nothing to do with any of them.
