Aquaman (Volume 9) #1 is an issue of the series Aquaman (Volume 9) with a cover date of March, 2025. It was published on January 8, 2025.
Synopsis for "The Rising Tide"
As a result of the mass power theft and redistribution during Absolute Power, Aquaman has gained his wife Mera's aquakinetic powers. Additionally, the Atlantean parliament voted to once again make him king to provide strong leadership in a time of crisis.
Aquaman saves a plane from crashing in the ocean by raising up a column of water and gently lowering it down, with Mera guiding him on how to use his new powers. The coastguard quickly respond to rescue the passengers and the pair return to Atlantis, where Arthur has a huge backlog of royal duties to deal with. Before he gets back to work, Jackson Hyde tells him that he found a magic pearl during a recent adventure and has a bad feeling about it, although he can't explain why. He tells Arthur that he and Garth will keep investigating it.
In the middle of a boring day of administration he receives a report of a giant monster attacking Daytona Beach and jumps at the chance for some action. He swims up to the surface and finds a creature made entirely of water climbing out of the sea to attack the city. Direct physical force doesn't work as he simply passes through the creature when he tries to hit it, but it can make itself sufficiently solid to hit him. He instead tries to use his new aquakinesis on the creature and is able to cause it to dissolve back into the ocean. Suddenly, he hears Mera urgently calling for him and swims back to Atlantis at top speed, arriving just in time to see the city disappear in a flash of bright light. He investigates the ruins of the palace and finds the pearl intact.
Aquaman takes the pearl up to the Watchtower and gets Zatanna to scan it. She determines that the pearl is a source of ancient power, but is unable to learn anything else about it. Zatanna tells Aquaman that her spell should have told her everything about the pearl but for some reason the information is being hidden from the tapestries of magic. However, she was able to detect something else with the same magical signature deep in the ocean.
Arthur swims to the location of the object, accompanied by Batman and Wonder Woman in the Javelin. They find that the object in question is an arch covered in undersea vegetation on an outcropping of rock. When Arthur takes the pearl close it flies from his hand into the arch and opens a portal inside. Batman warns that it could be a trap but Aquaman is willing to take the risk if his family is on the other side and swims through. The portal closes behind him, and when it does Batman and Wonder Woman see that all the vegetation has been burned off and revealed the arch's true shape: Darkseid's Omega.

Notes
- This issue reveals that Aquaman has gained Mera's hydrokinesis following the mass theft and then switch of powers during Absolute Power.
- This issue follows on from the third story in Batman: The Brave and the Bold (Volume 2) #18.
- Editor's notes reveal that the magical pearl introduced in that story, and the one seen in Barry Allen's "Wasteland World" in The Flash #785, are alternate universe counterparts to the Ocean Orb used by Emperor Aquaman in Flashpoint Beyond #1.
- These other stories were all written by Jeremy Adams, the author of this issue.
Trivia
- Aquaman remembers having previously met a creature made of water in the past. This is a reference to the Ankhis-born Flood that Arthur and the Justice League originally faced[1] during the Drowned Earth event.
