Argent was the domestic branch of Task Force X, formed after World War II.
History
Led by Control, its initial staff consisted mainly of former Office of Strategic Services agents. The agency was active during the early years of the Cold War until it went undercover and destroyed all records of its existence after Control killed a U.S. government official responsible for the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in 1963.[1]
Argent continued its work in secret despite having shrunk considerably in size. Control eventually passed away and Argent was taken over by his granddaughter Anne-Marie Vere, who maintained the pretense that Control was still alive to keep Argent operating. By modern times, a confrontation with the Suicide Squad exposed the deception and Argent was finally disbanded.[1]
