Synopsis for "These Walls Must Hold"

As Jeremiah Arkham warns his staff that they may have to evacuate Arkham Manor, an inmate worries that he's been placed in the Joker's old cell, and upon discovering a Joker playing card in his bed, he begins to panic that the Joker knows he's in there.

Batman, meanwhile, is inside the walls of the house he grew up in, trying to put a stop to the man murdering and torturing the other inmates of the transported asylum. The killer leaps onto him, stronger than he expected, and the man's silence is unnerving. Batman expects, by his smell that he's been hiding in the walls for weeks. Despite the man's unexpected speed and strength, Batman beats him into a corner, until he knows he's won. To make an example of him, he thrusts him through the wall and into the snow outside, hoping to show the other inmates that their safety is important - that he would risk his life for their sake.

Finally, he unmasks the man, and demands to know who he is - already well aware that this is all that he is. There is no gimmick - his only drive is to murder. Rather than say a word, the man slips his tongue between his teeth, and bites it off. After having him put into a cell, Dr. Arkham admits that there is little information about this patient. One of the guards admits that he recognizes him as one of the labourers who helped prepare Wayne Manor for its re-purposing as an asylum. Apparently, he'd finished his work, and never left. Arkham thanks Batman for his work, admitting that there are still four inmates escaped - including Jack Shaw, Batman's under-cover alias. Sybil Silverlock is missing, Victor Fries is hiding somewhere on the grounds, and Seth Wickham never made it to the hospital, after being sent there following the attempted murder on him.

Batman determines that Wickham is the priority for now, and worries that the troubled young man will have gone home. By the time he arrives there, the smell from behind the door tells him that he's already too late to protect the boy's family.
