Artemis is an Amazon from Amazonia, the leader of the tribe of wild girls of New Sparta's forest state.[1]
History
She came with other sisters Amazons from the city of New Sparta to face the New Athena's champion, Mala, the then Wonder Woman of Amazonia, during the games of the Festival of Diana. Before Mala, only Artemis and Troia — contender from New Sparta too — won the games millennia ago.
Further on, Queen Hippolyta sent Mala, Nubia, Troia and Artemis — and the Gorgon Medusa — to the United States of America in search for Princess Diana, the new Wonder Woman, to force her to return to Paradise Island and face the trial for her misdemeanor of protecting US Air Force pilot Steven Trevor, a man who crashed on Paradise Island, and taking him to the Man's World without the permission of the Queen.[2]
After Hippolyta's death and Diana's rise as the new Eternal Queen, Artemis only accepted her rule after being defeated in a duel. Artemis submitted to Diana by sealing a kiss on the lips, accepting to unite the tribes in the coming battle against the forces of Ares, the god of war.[1]
