Ash is a thief who was exposed to Lazarus Resin, giving him volcano-based superpowers.

History

Ash was a habitual but non-violent shoplifter and looter who bumped into Superman while he was robbing a clothing store. They were both caught in the Lazarus storm which caused Superman to blast lightning from himself and collapse. The lightning hit Ash and it, along with the Lazarus, mutated him and gave him powers.

Ash carried Superman to safety and, when he woke up, helped him stop criminals and rescue people around the city, although Superman still had to constantly stop him stealing from the crime scenes. After a few hours Ash asked if Superman would let him off for his crimes earlier that day. Superman said he wouldn't but he would put in a good word for him, and so Ash pretended that his powers had worn off. Superman turned Ash over to the police and he used his powers to escape from jail and disappeared, after stopping off back at his hideout to steal Superman's discarded cape.

• Unique Physiology: Exposure to the Lazarus Resin granted Ash several superhuman abilities.
  • Flight: Ash can levitate without any assistance, he can also fly at speeds that enable him to keep up with Superman.
    • Pyrokinesis: While flying his body spontaneously generates flames.
  • Superhuman Durability: Ash can crash through a water tower without suffering any damage.
  • Superhuman Strength: Ash can easily lift a man with only one arm and has helped Superman pull an autobus from the edge of a broken bridge.
  • Thermal-Blast: Ash can generate streams of lava from his hands.
