Atlanna was the deposed queen of Lemuria and mother of Arthur.
History
Arthur's father was a man from the surface and so his birth split Lemuria, as half the kingdom rose up in revolt against a half-surface heir. There was a bloody civil war and Atlanna was overthrown in a coup lead by Emperor Manta. She and Arthur were imprisoned.[1]
Atlanna managed to escape from prison and fled to the surface with a small group of loyalists and Arthur.[2] Her forces were pursued by an army lead by Manta's general Orvax, who caught them on the shore of the Kingdom of the Waynes. They battled on the beach below the city of Leguin, while the surface dweller army watched on, unsure which side was their enemy. Orvax summoned a tsunami, destroying the town and scattering all three forces over miles.
Atlanna was mortally wounded and lost Arthur in the chaos. She dragged herself through the ruins looking for him, and found him being pulled from the rubble by Jonathan and Martha.[3] Knowing she did not have long left to live, she approached them and told them who she and Arthur were. Atlanna asked them if they loved each other and if they had room in their hearts for another, to which Martha replied that they did. Atlanna begged them to take Arthur and protect and raise him as their own until he was old enough to take back their kingdom. She gave them two valuable golden medallions to provide for them and asked them to keep Arthur away from the ocean, let him be a child rather than a political pawn and to teach him kindness. Martha swore that she would. With her last breath Atlanna asked them to one day tell Arthur about her, and that she loved him above all else.[1]
