Atrocitus is the founder and leader of the Red Lantern Corps.

History

According to the story told by the Red Lanterns' cleric Loran, Atrocitus was once a native of the planet Ysmault. Long ago, the Guardians of the Universe appeared in the center of Ysmault's capital city. The dwarfish immortals claimed they would deliver peace and order to Atrocitus' people if the people would bow down and worship them like gods. When the beings of the sector refused, the Guardians unleashed their Manhunters, which proceeded to wipe out every living thing in the sector! Only Atrocitus and four others survived and formed a Terrorist Cell known only as the Five Inversions, sworn to get revenge on the self-appointed Guardians of the Universe and all who served them.

At some unknown point, Atrocitus was able to harness the power of the Red Light of Rage and formed a corps of Red Lanterns to counter the Green Lanterns.
