Augustus Freeman is the superhero Icon. Originally from the planet Terminus, he has made Earth his adopted home.
History
Icon's original appearance
In the 19th Century, Icon's ship crash-landed on Earth in the middle of a plantation and was found by a family of slaves. The ship had the capability to change its pilot to match a native of the planet it landed on the case of a crash-landing, so he could blend in and safely survive in the local environment. Therefore, when a woman approached the ship it transformed Icon into a black baby. She adopted Icon as her son and named him Augustus Freeman. The ship was too damaged for Icon to contact Terminus for help, leaving him stranded on Earth.
Icon lived among humans for over a century. At some point he married a woman named Estelle who he outlived. One day in the 1990's, a group of teenagers broke into his home to rob him and he used his alien powers to drive them away. One of them, Raquel Ervin, was amazed by him and believed that he could use his powers for the good of the community. She convinced him to become a superhero, with Raquel as his sidekick Rocket.
