I am known as The Authority...and as the word implies, I govern Tropicus, a verdent planet outside the reaches of Earth's most powerful telescopes!

The Authority is the ruler of the planet Tropicus and an enemy of Green Arrow.

History

The planet Tropicus was overgrown by vegetation that could only be kept at bay by rivers of powerful weedkiller. Trees grew in seconds, and time moves differently there.

The Authority, the planet's ruler, had been investigating Earth for some time to prepare for an invasion. He discovered that any time Earthlings created a weapon, they discovered a way to defend themselves against it. Mentally and physically, the people of Tropicus were superior, but they predicted humans would adapt within a generation as there were individuals that were better. To test this, they abducted Daniel Boone, King Arthur, Green Arrow and Speedy and put them to the test.

Though Arthur and Boone lost, Green Arrow discovered this was mostly due to the planet's climate, and ate salt to adjust his body. Withhis opponent defeated, they turned on fans outside the arena which blew jungle seeds into the stadium. As the people of Tropicus became entangled in vines, they protested against their leader, who had told them Earthlings were inferior. Knowing thousands of soldiers would die in the case of an invasion, the people rose up in rebellion. As the heroes made their escape, a volcano exploded, which destroyed the world.

Arriving back where they had left from, Green Arrow and Speedy wondered how much of the adventure was real and how much was imagined after being knocked out.

• This version of the Authority, including all history and corresponding appearances, was erased from existence following the collapse of the original Multiverse in the 1985–86 Crisis on Infinite Earths event and later restored following the rebirth of the infinite Multiverse during the Dark Crisis of 2022-2023. Even though other versions of the character may have appeared, this information does not apply to those versions.
