Baal is a storm god of ancient Lebanon turned demon-beast in Hell.

History

The insatiable flesh-eater demon Baal tempted the assassin Alister Creel by promising him power if he would release him from Hell through a ritual that consisted of murdering thirteen men in Gotham City, with the last victim having to be Creel himself. Batman and Etrigan the Demon ended up meeting during their investigations of these cases and they ended up in Hell to face Baal himself. Thanks to the power of a shard of the Philosopher's Stone, Baal is defeated and Batman and Etrigan return to Earth, where Batman prevents Creel from committing suicide as his own thirteenth victim (which would have been for nothing, since Baal was incapacitated in Hell and could not be summoned), turning him over to the police.

Baal was also part of a group of deities from different pantheons called the Interfaith Deity Council Of Active Polytheistics (I.D.C.A.P.). A part of this group, led by the evil god Ahriman and with the participation of Baal, went to Metropolis in an attempt to corrupt Superman. When the attempt failed, Baal and the other rebel gods were taken by other I.D.C.A.P. deities.

Baal in his demonic form appears as an obese being with large eyes and a mouth full of sharp teeth, and in his god form as a being half man, half bull, like a winged minotaur.
