Batgirl (real name Barbara Gordon) is a genius and righteous vigilante and member of the Batman Family who helps protect Gotham City from threats like the Court of Owls.
History
Barbara Gordon was raised by the commissioner of the Gotham City Police Department, Jim Gordon, who instilled in her a strong sense of right and wrong from an early age. Inspired by the vigilante known as Batman, a sixteen year-old Barbara crafted her own superhero identity of "Batgirl." She initially kept her distance, she eventually became a full-fledged member of the Batman Family.[1]
After a devastating spinal injury, she was unable to continue operating as Batgirl. Instead, she became an information broker under the handle "Oracle." Through surgery and therapy, Barbara was able to return to active duty.[1]
