Barbara Gordon was the wife of Commissioner Gordon.
History
Barbara married James Gordon sometime after the American Civil War, and they had children together. Unknown to her at first, he believed that women were evil by nature and he tortured her to "burn the sin out of her”. Barbara was aware of him being Jack the Ripper, who was killing the women around Gotham City. She tried killing Batman when he came to their home and found a secret room proving James was the mysterious serial killer terrorizing the city, before he forced her to reveal where he was.
