Baslyn (Earth-Two)

Baslyn was an American who lived by his wits in the Orient, he was lured to the Philippines by the myth of the Blood Pearls. To get the pearls, Baslyn abducted a mixed-race Chinese girl to exchange with Dato Penang, who was in possession of the pearls.^[1]

Before the exchange could be completed, Penang was murdered by his nephew, who wanted the girl for himself. Regardless, Penang's nephew let Baslyn keep the pearls.^[2] Baslyn struggled to sell the pearls to the local jewel dealers, and one night, he was confronted on his yacht by Tsao-Chung, the father of the girl he had abducted. After a brief discussion, Baslyn pushed Tsao-Chung overboard, presumably killing him.^[3]

Baslyn escaped to the United States, but the shadow of Tsao-Chung seemed to follow him home.^[4] Increasingly paranoid, Baslyn traveled from the West Coast to the East Coast trying to elude his pursuer, eventually reaching New York City.^[5] And yet even in the big city, Baslyn was unable to escape his crimes, his throat was cut by the vengeful hand of Tsao-Chung's brother, and the cursed pearls bathed in his blood.^[6]

This version of Baslyn, including all history and corresponding appearances, was erased from existence following the collapse of the original Multiverse in the 1985–86 Crisis on Infinite Earths event and later restored following the rebirth of the infinite Multiverse during the Dark Crisis of 2022-2023. Even though other versions of the character may have appeared, this information does not apply to those versions.
Baslyn was the protagonist of a feature named "Blood Pearls". However, he was not the hero of the story -- despite being the main character, he was an evil man and came to a deserved bad fate at the end.
