Synopsis for "Bruce Wayne: Fugitive, Part Five"

Spoiler and Batgirl are playing tag on the rooftops and Spoiler loses to Batgril one more time. Soon, they spot a group of men equiped with high tech gear breaking into a nearby building and they know that those men are really dangerous and they must be stopped. Batgirl knocks down Spoiler and leaves her safe in the rootop while she goes down and confronts them. Batgirl takes them down with ease and then she goes back to the rooftops, where Batman is waiting for her to congratulate her for beating Lady Shiva on a hand-to-hand combat, something he has never been able to do. Batgirl offers her help to solve the case of the murder of Vesper, but Batman tells her that this, as her fight with Shiva, is something he must do alone.

Moments later, Steph and Cassie are back at Oracle's Watchtower, where Stephanie complains about Cass breaking her jaw. Barbara sends Steph away and then she asks Cass the truth of what happened. Cass tells her that she used a technique called nerve strike that is used to knock down a person causing a little fracture to the jaw of the victim. Barbara is impressed and then she gets back to work. Cass mentions his encounter with Batman and Barbara asks her what happened. After learning what Batman said, Barbara finds hard to keep working on his case because she has found too many evidence, all pointing at Bruce Wayne and in someway, she can't deny evidence. Cass can't believe that Barbara believes that Bruce killed Vesper and she asks Barbara if she can do anything to prove that Bruce is innocent. Barbara telss her that she'd need to find more conlcusive evidence that all the clues she has found so far.

At night, Batgirl and Spoiler go to the Gotham Cemetery to where Vesper Fairchild is buried. Spoiler refuses to dig Vesper's body out and she tells Batgirl that if she wants to do it, she must knock her out again, which Batgirl does. When Spoiler recovers consciuosness, she finds that Batgirl has taken the corpse out and that she has examined it for a while, but haven't found anything useful because the body is too decomposed. However, when Batgirl is placing the corpse back on the coffin, she notices something in Vesper's jaw and soon, she stands and touches Spoiler's jaw just to confirm what she already knows, Vesper was a victim of the nerve strike.

Steph and Cass go back to the Watchtower and they tell the news to Barbara, Nightwing and Robin. The news are shocking and conclusive about Vesper being attacked by a person that knew the nerve strike, which Bruce doesn't and they have something new to work on.

Meanwhile, Steph and Cass decide to go out again an play tag one more time.

At that moment, a man in a caffeteria gets a call from a mysterious man, who seems to be the leader of the gang that Batgirl stopped earlier.

This comic issue is a part of the Bruce Wayne: Murderer? and Bruce Wayne: Fugitive story that went through every Batman Family title in 2002. Bruce Wayne was framed for the murder of his love interest Vesper Fairchild and forced to go on the run from the law so he could prove his innocence. This adventure almost completely compromised his identity from the inside.
