Synopsis for "Batgirl Rising: Field Test"
Stephanie Brown is doing her Computer Science homework as her mother gets ready for work. Once Crystal leaves, Steph heads to the Batcave where she tries on her new Batgirl suit as Oracle uplinks it to keep track of her vital signs and performance. Batgirl heads out to test the suit while on patrol, and she foils the robbery of a skyscraper; however, she misjudges the weight her grapple can hold and ends up toppling to the ground with a robber hanging onto her. She lands them both on a tour bus where a starstruck young girl tells her to keep up the good work.
Gotham is struck by a blackout. Batgirl continues on patrol, stopping a series of petty crimes, including the theft of her own mother's handbag, while Barbara is called to the Thompkins Clinic to counsel Wendy Harris, who is pushing herself beyond her limits in her grief and anger. Wendy breaks down over her brother's death.
Commissioner Gordon and Detective Gage investigate a dead body found on the field at Monarch Meadows. Their investigation leads them to the Gotham Department of Water and Power, where Livewire is sucking up the electricity in Gotham and Bludhaven. Batgirl follows the light and flirtatiously greets Gage as she swings by, earning him Gordon's suspicion and disapproval. Livewire electrocutes Batgirl, but her suit is insulated and Livewire uses up all her power to no effect. Batgirl punches Livewire, who is arrested.
Batgirl and Oracle meet in a parking lot. Oracle doesn't want to talk about her night and asks if Batgirl has done her homework, to which she responds, “Touche.” They watch the sunrise together before Barbara drives her home. When Crystal comes to wake her forty minutes later, Steph is fast asleep.
