Savage Night is an episode of season 1 of Batman: Caped Crusader. It premiered on August 1, 2024.
Synopsis for "Savage Night"
Harvey Dent is less than pleased to find out Barbara Gordon's been assigned as his attorney, but his gentler side asserts itself and he tells her to just leave him, because he's irredeemable after the rampage he's been arrested for. She offers him a proposition: a coin toss, which ends in her favor because it was made with his own signature double-headed coin. Rupert Thorne orders that Dent be silenced before he has a chance to reveal any damaging information. Barbara Gordon continues to work Dent's case, believing she can get him transferred to a less secured hospital and receive better mental help in exchange for turning state's evidence, but Dent continues to demur, citing his moral failings in his previous career and believing he doesn't deserve justice because of them.
Batman visits Gordon at her office to ask what the latest updates are in the Dent case, and points out that while he did compromise sometimes, Dent did care about justice, and to remind him of that. Before he slips out the window, Gordon manages to wrangle Batman's private phone number in case she needs to call him for help in the future.
Bruce Wayne visits Dent and tries to convince him to accept help and improve his situation, but Dent continues to believe it's hopeless, convincing Wayne to watch him more closely. When Dent's being escorted to his court hearing, he's kidnapped by Flass and Bullock. While in the back of their car, Dent starts trying to pit the corrupt detectives against each other, making Bullock out to be a ready-made fall guy for the more commanding Flass. When Flass attacks him to shut him up, Dent suddenly ducks and kicks Bullock's head against the steering wheel, flipping the car. Barabara Gordon had been pursuing them and rescues Dent from the back, but when he declares his intent to attack Rupert Thorne again, instead of freeing him from his handcuffs, she cuffs the two of them together before driving off with him. From a phone booth she calls Commissioner Gordon for help, then the Batman.
Barbara Gordon meets with her father, Montoya and Batman on the waterfront, but are separated by an attack from Thorne's enforcers along with the two corrupt cops. Batman dispatches most of them, but Dent jumps in front of Flass's bullet meant for Barbara Gordon. Batman picks up Flass's gun, terrifying the corrupt detective, but Batman empties it firing within inches of his head before angrily flinging it into the water and knocking Flass out with his fists.
Batman observes how the odds of dealing justice in Gotham City are heavily stacked against him and the few honest people in city law enforcement, but seeing those few other people fighting the good fight, including Dent willing to sacrifice himself to save another, he declares he'll keep fighting too. He then thanks Alfred, and addresses him by his first name, for the first time. Batman leaves the Batcave to deliver a warning to Rupert Thorne by barely missing him with a batarang.
Elsewhere, an experiment is carried out where the victims die laughing with deranged grins. The pale-skinned figure performing them, holding a syringe, declares the results, "Perfect".
