Synopsis for the 1st Story

Batman interrupts a mugging, but he beats the assailant so brutally the victim stops him. He returns to Rahn to be painted. When Purge attacks again nearby, Rahn encourages him to go. Batgirl is also there, and she fights Purge, though she is injured and Purge escapes. Batman returns with her to the Batcave for medical attention.

Evan Slate is mourning his assistant Celia's death, and he blames Batman. Because their priority is now Purge, his plan for Neo Gotham is rejected by city council. Angela Stiles takes him out for a drink, and Rahn sees them kissing and considers it a betrayal from his agent. He tells her the Batman painting will not be for sale.

Batman receives an email from Oracle, but since he is out, Batgirl has Alfred read it to her. Batgirl realizes the phosphorescent suit Slate's wife made him is the same as Purge's, and they speculate that Celia's death might be connected to Slate's bio experiments. Now that Neo Gotham has been rejected, Batgirl figures Slate will be out for revenge and leaves to stop him.

Batman has returned to the Submergists' loft to sit for Rahn. Purge watches them.
