Synopsis for "City of Light, Chapter Eight"
The phosphorescent material spreads through Gotham City, boosting Purge's power. He can now withstand the firepower of the police helicopters. Commissioner Akins waits as long as he can before giving the order to turn off the Bat-Signal, unaware that Batman is already inside with Batgirl and Detectives Montoya and Allen.
Batman orders Batgirl to escort the detectives out of Slate Tower One. He fights Purge, defeating him, and after he is overcome, he disappears.
Rahn and Angela Styles listen as Evan Slate rants to himself, and Rahn tells her he's been doing that the entire time. Purge is a figment of his imagination. He tells Slate that instead of purifying Gotham, he's contaminated it with the darkness of his own soul. Slate attacks him, but he is saved by Batman.
Batman fights Slate as he flickers between himself and Purge. Slate is convinced the light will save him, but when he looks out, he sees a fissure of darkness and a swarm of bats. Slate collapses, and Slate Tower One loses its white glow and is revealed to be black underneath.
Slate is held in Arkham Asylum. Rahn and Angela resume their careers in the art world. Cassandra Cain goes on a date with Javier the barista while Batman watches from a rooftop.
