Synopsis for "Death and the Maidens, Chapter 6"

Thomas Wayne wonders why his brilliant son doesn’t have an answer to his question. He mocks Bruce for calling himself a detective and demands to see how he really thinks of himself, and in the hallucination, Bruce is suddenly dressed as Batman. He explains that he became Batman to prevent anybody else from being murdered or losing their parents, but admits that he doesn’t feel the grief as strongly as he once did. Thomas tells him he shouldn’t mistake the passage of time for apathy.

Alfred, who is monitoring Bruce, is drawn away by an intruder alert. Ubu has brought Ra’s al Ghul, and Alfred threatens them into leaving. Ra’s denies visiting the property uninvited three times in recent weeks.

On the phone Nyssa reminds Misha that they are seeking not only revenge on Ra’s, but on the world for its apathy in letting Ra’s get away with his crimes. Misha takes out the object he stole from the Batcave, which glows green, before blowing up his hideout and driving in the direction of Metropolis. Nyssa reveals to Talia that they are half-sisters.

Ra’s met Nyssa’s mother, a Jewish peasant, while traveling the Volga River in 1773. He abandoned her a year later. Nyssa was born later in 1774 and was raised on stories of her mother’s “Arabian prince,” whom she believed would come back for them. When her mother died of tuberculosis, she went in search of her father. In time, he gave her a Lazarus Pit because he expected her to eventually bear his heir and there were more of them back then.

Nyssa tells Talia they have to stop their father from going through the agony of a Lazarus Pit again. She puts Talia to bed. Nyssa has a nightmare about the experiments performed on her at Ravensbruck, where she was medically sterilized against her will.
