I've never been in a real, honest-to-goodness fist-fight until tonight. As a teenager, I was contemptuous of the wealth and society I was born into. I used to fantasize that I was actually Bruce Wayne instead. I would pretend that I was feigning my elitist lifestyle... as a cover in which to fight the forces of evil as the Batman. Securing the rights to portray Batman on film has been as much an escape for me as it is for the theatergoers. But now...
Batman: Hollywood Knight #1 is an issue of the series Batman: Hollywood Knight (Volume 1) with a cover date of April, 2001.
Synopsis for "Tinseltown Terror"
After watching a Batman serial, Jack Napier and Mr. Winter of Arkham Pictures did not want to let the independent Gotham Pictures (which produced the serial) to break their monopoly over film distribution. One week later, on the lot of Gotham Pictures, actor Byron Wyatt received a phone call from Dee Wethington of National Comics and learned that an anonymous party was trying to pressure the publisher into revoking his license.
While Jack Napier argued with Clark Gable, the former received a phone call and learned that he had failed to legally obtain the Batman franchise. A few hours later, while filming, Byron accidentally drove the Batmobile into an elevated platform, causing a man to nearly fall before fellow actor Rob Davis saved him. Then, Rob learned that the tire was sabotaged, while the undercover saboteur phoned Arkham and informed them of his failure.
That night, Byron and Rob went on dates at the Kit Kat Club, where they encountered Errol Flynn before they encountered three men (secretly from Arkham Pictures) who offered Gotham Pictures a deal, although to force them out of the movie business. Byron and Rob, as well as Errol Flynn, fought the three men before the bouncer kicked them out before they reported to Mr. Winter.
A few days later, Byron vowed that he would not be intimidated by money or muscle, while Napier and Winter planned to follow Byron and the other cast and crew to a film set in Death Valley and "accidentally" burn them alive.
While Byron (while Rob was elsewhere) attempted to film a scene in Death Valley, Napier's men and Winter opened fire on the crew and started a fire on their set. Byron was left to die before a horseman named Alfred Penny saved him.
After several days, Byron woke up in a cave with Alfred and attempted to remember his name before he remembered being called the Batman.
