- This film is my story. It's everything about me the world should know. That's why the genius of Buddy Kantor is in the lead. No lesser light could reveal my brilliance. But life is not all yin. There's a lot of yang out there. With a virtuoso playing me, only the best man out there could play my antagonist. We need that balance. So it struck me: why settle for an actor? Get the real thing. Film that bad man, Batman himself in real-life action! I can't settle for less. I won't!!
Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight #163 is an issue of the series Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight (Volume 1) with a cover date of March, 2003. It was published on January 8, 2003.
Synopsis for "Auteurism II: Electric Boogaloo"
The Joker's fake bank robbery successfully attracts Batman's attention, and Buddy Kantor watches in both horror and wonder as the two fight. The event gives Kantor new inspiration for his role in the Joker's biopic, but also instills him with a fear of being arrested. Meanwhile, Batman sees Kantor observing him, and upon realizing that the Joker's "robbery" is anything but, suspects that his archenemy is up to something far more complex.
While Kantor is taken back to the Joker's hideout to keep "playing" the Joker, the real Joker stages another fake robbery the next night to acquire more footage of Batman for his biopic. Batman appears as planned and violently interrogates the Joker, but is forced away when one of the Joker's henchmen releases all the animals from the local zoo. The Joker brings the new footage back to his hideout, and the biopic is completed.
Kantor watches the finished film while the Joker and his henchmen sleep, and immediately deems it his magnum opus. However, he remains terrified of being arrested, and tries to sneak away with the reels. Soon after, he runs into Batman, who had actually tracked down the Joker's hideout days ago. After the entire situation is explained to him, a sympathetic Batman convinces Kantor to impersonate a police chief, allowing him to capture the Joker and his men bloodlessly.
Convicted by two reels of his own biopic, the Joker is quickly sent back to Arkham Asylum. The rest of the reels, however, go on to win Kantor "Best Documentary Feature" at the Academy Awards.
