Synopsis for "Darker Than Death, Part I"
Amid a series of blackouts, caused by the summer heat, Bruce Wayne attends the engagement party for Conrad Billingsworth and Jane Rutledge. Bruce admires a painting of a wood nymph owned by the groom's father Charles. He comes across Jane's sister Lilith swimming naked on the grounds, and he drives her home.
The Billingsworth's butler Edwin has an argument with his pregnant daughter Miriam, who is a maid at the house. When Mrs. Billingsworth comes in to order her around, Miriam quits and storms out of the house.
Bruce and Lilith's night together is interrupted by Conrad, who can't find Jane and whose father won't let him go to the police. Lilith is furious and sends both men away. Batman searches the city for Jane, but fails to find her.
Lilith calls and tells Bruce there is a package outside her door. She faints when she finds her sister's finger inside.
