Synopsis for "The Thane of Gotham"

Angus MacAbre has invited four people to "Castle MacAbre," his home, for dinner, but the fourth invitation was declined by Bruce Wayne. His father died not long after "that fateful night," and the three guests are revealed to be Thomas's former employees: Warren Miron, Dale King, and Joan.

Batman searches the castle for the dining room as Angus tells the guests about the night his son was born: His wife went into labor at the same time as the victims of a train crash overwhelmed the hospital, and the only doctor able to help was Thomas Wayne. He was assisted by the nurse Joan and the anesthesiologist Dale, but the birth was complicated. Morag died, and the child was born "a monster, with the intelligence of a stone." He tried to sue for medical malpractice, but his lawyer Warren Miron advised him to drop the suit. Angus MacAbre retired from public life afterwards and devoted himself to building the labyrinthine "Castle MacAbre."

Batman searches the kitchen and finds empty cans of poison, but he is caught by Lachlan, who strikes him. He subdues Lachlan, who begs him not to hurt him. Batman tells him he is there to visit "Daddy" and trades his flashlight, then a Batarang, for Lachlan showing him the way.

Angus announces that today is his son Lachlan's thirtieth birthday. Warren slaps away the slice of cake Angus offers him, suspecting it is poisoned. He pulls a gun on Angus, who says he only wanted them to know what they did to him when they let Morag die. He didn't want to hurt them. Joan begs Warren to put the gun down. She knows they are responsible for Morag's death, but they've been paying for it ever since--literally, since Warren has been blackmailing her and her husband. Warren tries to shoot Angus, but Dale pulls his arm up in time and the bullet hits the ceiling. Angus runs, and Warren follows him.

Batman comes across Angus and Warren. He knocks the gun out of his hand, but Warren picks up a sword and holds it to Angus's neck. Lachlan charges Warren and is stabbed, and Batman knocks out Warren with a Batarang while he is distracted. Both are injured, but should be alright.

Batman apologizes for thinking Angus was going to poison his guests when it was rat poison. Angus admits he doesn't blame them, not even Thomas Wayne. All he wanted was for them to feel compassion.
