Synopsis for "The House of Hush, Chapter Five: Infestation"

Batman sets off a C02 cannister to kill a swarm of bugs. When they are swarmed again, Batman and Catwoman are forced to flee towards two Bedbug-controlled cops, who fire at them. Batman knocks them out with a batarang. When more (uncontrolled) cops show up, Catwoman leaves while Batman explains what happened. Bedbug realizes he went too far in using cops and it would be wise to lay low for a while.

Hush uses his appearance as Bruce Wayne to trick his way into the security level of Wayne Tower with Judson Pierce, Dr. Death, Little Italy, and Mr. ZZZ. When Jeffrey Carter becomes suspicious, Dr. Death gasses him, and they take him hostage. Dr. Death mixes chemicals as he thinks back to how he became involved in Pierce's plan to get rid of the Thompkins Clinic decades ago. He developed a particularly virulent strain of “Asian rat-bite fever” to release in the kitchens, and when they are caught releasing the rats by Sonny, they had him bitten as a live carrier; however, Sonny managed to stay conscious long enough to tell Thomas Wayne about the rat bite, and Thomas called in every resource at Wayne Enterprises to create a cure before there was an outbreak.

Sallie Guzzo was so angry at their failiure that he blew up an abandoned building, which destroyed the whole street, including the clinic. Guzzo abducted Sonny in the chaos, and the criminals ran away when the Justice Society arrived to put out the fire and rescue the civilians. They were stopped by Roger Elliot, who went to shoot Guzzo, but was shot himself by Pierce before they successfully got away. Dr. Death considers that the night it all changed in Gotham, and he has changed with the times: He knows there is no profit in helping strangers with their goals, and he plans for Hush, Pierce, Little Italy, and Mr. ZZZ to be the first to die from his new toxin.

Before he can act on his plan, Hush knocks him out and seizes the toxin.
